The John Deere 2305 is the equipment for you if you need a lot of power in a small package.

Don’t get us wrong when we say, “this machine is a very efficient one that seemed to be downsized in the drying chamber!”

We were completely smitten by the JD 2305 at first sight. However, as we took the wheel, our perception of the JD 2305 as a compact and “cute” tractor was debunked. Instead, this is a heavy-duty and hardy tractor!

Yet, this machine is ideal for individuals who want to save space. Because of its compact size, it may fit into more confined spaces.

Furthermore, if you have a garage or a garden shed, you may store it easily. Nevertheless, ensure the storage space is high enough because the rollover protection does not roll down.

From 2005 to 2010, this tractor was manufactured at John Deere’s Augusta, Georgia, USA plant. It is part of the 2000 Twenty Series. Furthermore, the JD 2305 is a sub-utility tractor, providing many of the same benefits as compact tractors while being less expensive and taking up less space. Sounds quite advantageous.

As seasoned gardeners, our team has evaluated different John Deere lawn mowers and tractors. The majority of them are easy to fall in love with. But believe us when we are still waiting to see a tractor as adaptable as the John Deere 2305 sub-utility tractor.

There are many landscaping activities you may engage in with this “John Deere product,” but first, let’s examine where did it all start?

The History of John Deere 2305 Tractor

The History of John Deere 2305 Tractor

The John Deere 2305 is a member of the John Deere 2000 Twenty Series tractor, as we said previously. The brand’s factory in Augusta, Georgia, USA, produced the tractor designated by this number for five years, from 2005 to 2010.

The JD 2305 is a sub-compact utility tractor that works best for gardeners with smaller parcels of land. This tractor is incredibly space-efficient and may be used for storage and gardening duties effortlessly.

In fact, the tractor almost led us to believe it was a bigger-style “toy tractor” when we first saw it to review it. It is a genuine tractor, nevertheless, and during its prime, it gained popularity for two reasons:

  • Compact size
  • Versatility

You can rest assured that the John Deere 2305 is always prepared to handle whatever job assignment you toss, regardless of the features you want.

Highlights of John Deere 2305

Highlights of John Deere 2305

Before discussing the features of John Deere 2305, here are some features that need particular attention. In short, here are some of the highlights of the JD 2305 that we came across.

  • The rollover protection system (ROPS) on the 2305 John Deere tractor is fixed, unlike many other John Deere tractors with collapsible ROPs. Therefore, as previously mentioned, pay attention to the height of the storage space where you intend to keep your JD 2305.
  • Despite being a little tractor, it can perform many garden tasks on par with its “bigger equivalents.”
  • The JD 2305’s small gasoline cap is situated between the rider’s legroom and is smaller. Therefore, use caution when filling the tank because there is a potential that oil will spill.
  • The John Deere 2305 makes less noise and vibration. For most of us, that’s a big relief!
  • At 100% load, JD 2305 is rated to consume 1.6 gallons of fuel per hour. Consequently, you don’t need to worry as much about high fuel usage.
  • To examine the tractor’s inside, it is simple to remove the sides of the hood.

Features of John Deere 2305 in Detail

Features of John Deere 2305 in Detail

It’s time to take a deep breath and delve into the world of the John Deere 2305 now that the features and highlights of the tractor have been covered.

With its Yanmar 3-cylinder, 24-horsepower engine, 2305 generates much power in a compact space. Production started in 2006 and is still available for about $11,000. We won’t expose everything here; instead, move on to the sections below for more information.

Physical Features/ Overview

There is no shame in admitting that we fell in love with this compact yet multifunctional John Deere tractor.

But don’t worry; our admiration for this machine will not lead to a biased evaluation. On the contrary, we shall be entirely honest with our readers and always tell the truth.

Body Color

The body of the John Deere 2305 is all green, with yellow borders and a wheel disc. This tractor’s color coding is standard John Deere, which sets it apart from other brand tractors.

The tractor’s body is powder-coated, which keeps it from rusting or corroding even after extended use in the sun or rain. Furthermore, the welded steel body maintains the machine’s longevity.

We can attest to this because, even after 12 years since its last manufacture, the JD 2305 is still in good working order and is well-liked by its followers.

External Components

The John Deere 2305 is a compact tractor with all its components and controls within the rider’s reach. But after reviewing this machine, we discovered that it is best to avoid using it on slopes and to be gentle with the controls.

The ROPs function ensures your safety while maintaining the comfort of the operator’s seat, which is not suspended.

All the modern amenities you’d expect to see on a tractor from this era are there on this one, including power steering, wet disc, independent rear and mid-PTOs, the transmission selector, etc.

You can locate the following controls on the rider’s dashboard:

  • The PTO switch
  • Power steering
  • Hour meter
  • Throttle
  • The ignition
  • Fuel meter
  • Warning lights

Size/ Weight

How do we say that the John Deere 2305 is a small tractor? Well, based on its dimension.

The JD 2305 has a dimension of 102.6” x 44.9” x 42” (hood). As far as its weight is concerned, it ranges between 1450-1865 lbs. Also, its wheelbase is 57.1”.

No matter how nice a tractor may look, it is useless if it cannot work as intended. And its engine is where its performance really shines. In other words, a tractor’s engine is its beating heart.

The JD 2305 is powered by a Yanmar 3TNV76 3-cylinder diesel engine, which produces 24 horsepower. This tractor has a bore and stroke of 2.99×3.23 inches with a displacement rate of 68 ci. It has a 23:4:1 compression ratio rating.

Concerning the engine’s overall power, we were genuinely impressed. Given its size, the gross power is adequate to perform landscaping jobs on small to medium-sized lawns. In addition, this John Deere tractor has a 12 Volt electric starter, just like other John Deere tractors.

This tractor’s motor can run on No. 1 diesel, No. 2 diesel, or B5 biodiesel. The best part is that the JD 2305 provides equal torque comparable to that of the larger models in John Deere’s range.

Another feature is the substantial rubber mountings and isolators on the engine mounts, which reduce noise and vibration while operating the tractor.

The motor produces 41.7 ft-lbs of torque to push or pull any object you can envision. In our trial with 2305, we used this strength to maneuver some loose gravel. Guess what happened next? The JD 2305 does admirably on the test.

Electric Start

A tractor cannot be considered modern if it does not have an electric start. And John Deere is well aware of this. As a result, 2305 has an electronic starter powered by a 12V battery with 500 CCA, just like other JD tractors and riding lawn mowers.

At 20 amps, the batteries charge the fastest. Because of the electronic starter, this tractor can be started without needing to accelerate, even in extremely cold weather.

Fuel Tank

The John Deere 2305’s gasoline tank cap is situated between the rider’s leg space, which could look odd.

However, it is secure and entirely contained. Be cautious, though, as there could be oil spills due to its modest size. In addition, the tractor’s fuel tank has a capacity of 5.5 gals and uses 1.6 gals of fuel every hour at 100% load. As a result, less fuel will be used per usage.

Hydrostatic transmission and four-wheel drive are standard features with the John Deere 2305. Additionally, it has 2-range unlimited forward and backward gears.

Furthermore, the JD 2305 incorporates a wet disc brake that instantly makes it simple to halt the tractor in wet weather. Likewise, you will have cruise control, an option that allows you to maintain a steady speed for your tractor.

This feature also decreases fuel acceleration and deceleration and controls the fuel your motor consumes. However, keep in mind that cruise control is not a standard and is an option in this model. Therefore, we advise you to get the model with cruise controls already installed.

The power steering on this tractor is another feature we really liked because it allows for frequent movement without wearing out the driver. The tilted steering feature, however, was absent from this model. It would have made the JD 2305 a unique model.

With the 2305 tractor, John Deere went one step further by including a lockable spur gear final drive. Thanks to this feature, you’ll have a little push to finish the job.

Oh, we almost forgot to say that the tractor started easily. Yes, we got in the tractor to test the transmission to verify the brand’s claim. However, we must admit that its smooth start and swift transition from forward to reverse without experiencing any “jerking” impressed us.

Mid and rear PTOs are included with the John Deere 2305. It is possible to load attachments thanks to the rear PTO. It spins at 540 RPM and is independent. The mid-PTO, on the other hand, also spins independently and at a speed of 2100 RPM.

The John Deere 2305 has another useful feature in its power steering. You won’t have to pay more because this model already includes this feature. You can always perform at your peak when working because it is quicker and more fluid.

Operator’s Cabin

The John Deere 2305 has two-post fixed ROPs, which is advantageous in terms of safety. There is little to talk about the operator’s cabin, though. All the controls and levers are easy to access, and the overall cab area is pretty compact and cozy.

Nonetheless, the seat needs to be mentioned specifically. It is not a suspended type; rather, it is fixed. Yet, you can spin it around (on the opposite side) and push it back to lock it.

The hydraulic control levers, which could seem unpleasant, are another point to be made. We also observed that although the seating space is not congested, it may get unpleasant if you have long legs.

The spinning seat function, which makes it simpler to sit facing the tractor’s back and operate its rear levers, was what we loved the most.

The John Deere 2305 is compatible with the iMatch Quick-Hitch system but does not come with a 3-point hitch.

This tractor works well with a variety of attachments. You also receive the three configurable power ranges from the mid-and rear-mounted PTOs.

The sub-compact utility tractor from John Deere 2305 can be equipped with the following attachments.

  • John Deere 200CX loader
  • John Deere 54C mid-mount mower deck with 3 blades
  • John Deere 62C mid-mount mower deck with 3 blades
  • Four-foot rotary cutter
  • A 260 backhoe
