The 4440 is considered to be a full-sized farm/agricultural tractor and is equipped with a turbocharged 6 cylinder engine. In 1982 the 4440 sold at retail for $44,000.
Today you can find these tractors available for around $20,000 to $30,000.
At the end of the first year of production, the rear axle was increased from 86mm to 92mm. You can find the JD 4440 in two variations, the standard and the High-crop.
The High crop has a higher clearance which is better suited for jobs that deal with tall crop harvesting and negotiating difficult terrain. A rear three-point hitch (type IIIN/II) is compatible with a variety of attachments such as plows. The 4400 can use two types of front loaders, one with a 1,350 lb capacity and the other at 1,771 lbs.
