Intro to Stump Removal

Stump removal is not an easy task. We all know that when we cut down a tree there will always be a part of it that is left attached to the ground.

And the parts that are left attached like the remainder of the trunk and the roots will die and decay in time.

But if the stump is in a high traffic walkway or driveway– you might want to speed the process up a bit.

You can remove it mechanically, manually, with the use of a chemical tree stump remover, or you will just allow nature to take its course and let it decay naturally.

The Chemical Method for Removing Stumps

The chemical method involves using various chemical processes to get rid of the tree stump. Home garden centers have chemical products available that are great in hastening the rotting process tree stump.

Stump remover chemical which is potassium nitrate is a common component of these products for they are high in nitrogen which is essential in bacterial growth.

Bacteria thrive in an environment high in nitrogen and they will be very helpful in the decomposition process. If this happens the stump will be easier to remove.

The process will involve drilling holes with a large diameter drill bit and pouring the chemical mixed with water.

You will then leave it over time until the chemical has taken effect. That is when you will get the chance to remove it.

Mechanically Removing Your Tree Stump

The mechanical stump removal method is with the use of a toothed circular cutting blade that chops away and breaks the stump into small chips.

You must make sure that before using this equipment you have cleared the sides of debris and rocks. Also cutting the stump as near to the ground as possible is highly suggested before using this.

Feeling Strong?  There’s Always the Manual Method

This is only applicable if the stump is not too big. The manual tree stump removal will involve digging a trench around the perimeter of the stump.

Then in order to loosen the soil and remove the stump use a pickaxe.

Finally, there’s the Natural Method

This is a method that will just let nature take its own course. You will not need to do anything and will just let it decompose on its own.
