As far as electric lawn mowers go, few cover as many bases as the Greenworks 20 inch 3-in-1. Featuring a simple, practical design, 3-in-1 discharge, and a variety of cutting heights, the Greenworks is excellent for the home gardener.

Greenworks electric lawn mower range is synonymous with quality, and this model doesn’t disappoint. The seven positions of adjustment are a real draw here, making it useful in all seasons. It also allows for three means of discharge, mulching, side, and rear bag.

Simplicity is another reason we highly recommend this lawnmower. Foldable storage and a one-button start make using the Greenworks 25022 a breeze. All of this culminates for a sublime user-experience, cutting out the hassle involved with mowing the lawn.

There are a few downsides, such as issues with mulching at times and higher-temperatures than we would hope. These are somewhat negligible, especially if you intend to use it in a small-medium, flat garden. The Greenworks may struggle in larger gardens, so do consider this before buying.

It’s hard not to recommend this electric lawn mower, it checks all the right boxes and can perform all essential mowing tasks. It really is one of the best corded electric lawn mowers on the market.

Quick Summary

  • 20-inch cutting deck
  • 13 amp power
  • 7-position height adjustment
  • 13-gallon collection bag
  • Foldable handlebars
  • EdgeMax technology
  • Plastic body

If you’re looking for a powerful corded lawn mower, then the Black & Decker MM2000 may be what you’re looking for.

Thanks to its 13 amp electric motor, this corded electric mower can shave away the garden with ease. A motor like this rivals even gas-powered mowers but remains suitable for small and medium yards.

Dubbed as EdgeMax, the MM2000 is built to glide along with patios, borders, and edges with precision. This is an essential feature for anyone with a feature-rich garden with plenty of paths or edging.

The blades on the MM2000 are fantastic, with a 20-inch steel blade that sucks in grass thanks to the ‘EdgeMax’ feature. This corded lawn mower has seven positions, handling grass between 4 and 11.5 inches. If you’re not into routinely maintaining your garden, then this will suit you perfectly.

The large collection bag is excellent, holding 13 gallons of grass clippings. This is a godsend for anyone who wants to mow through their small garden in one fell swoop. Even if the bag is filling up, it’s easy to take a quick glance at the mesh bag and see if it’s worth emptying.

Despite its bulky size, the Black & Decker MM2000 is compact enough to store easily. Convenience is built into this mower, with easy access to the height adjustment, lightweight, and an adjustable handle.

The build quality could be improved somewhat, with a plastic deck and starter cable that can feel flimsy. We were not a fan of the rock shield and rear flap, which could make backward movements finicky. These are all minor flaws but could be a nuisance for some buyers.

We can’t recommend the Black & Decker MM2000 enough if you need an easygoing mower that packs a punch. EdgeMax technology definitely sets it apart, as well as the simple design that tailors it to simple jobs.

Quality mowers with a cheap price point aren’t always easy to come by. The Sun Joe MJ401E checks this box nicely, offering premium features at an affordable price.

Featuring a compact body design, the Sun Joe MJ401E is incredible for anyone with a small, tight garden. With a 14 inch blade and a 13-amp motor, any gardener will make quick work out of a typical backyard.

Thanks to a lightweight frame and a durable plastic body, the MJ401E is easy to move around and lasts all the same. The weight of the body will definitely appeal to anyone who experiences physical difficulty mowing their lawn.

Regardless of its size, this corded mower can still rip through the garden with gusto. The 13 amp motor is a beast and, paired with the weight of the device, makes the cutting feel buttery smooth.

This electric corded mower does have some versatility, with a 3-position height control making it useful in a variety of situations. If you don’t cut your grass often, then this may not be for you, but otherwise, this will serve you well for routine cuts.

A 10.6-gallon collection bag further cements its practicality in small gardens, which is paramount to its lightweight. The Pro version thankfully comes equipped with a rear discharge chute, giving the mower a bit more practicality.

This is one of the simplest mowers available – we mean that well. It’s simple design, quick start and lightweight make it a perfect companion. It just glides through tight spaces and small lawns.

At this price point, weight and deck size, the Sun Joe MJ401E-PRO is perfect for anyone with a small garden. It can cut grass easily and is lightweight enough to get it through a front or back yard. There are few mowers at this price point that can rival the MJ401-E, making it a solid choice for the common garden.

Quick Summary

  • 16-inch cutting deck
  • 10-amp motor
  • 5-position cutting height
  • Mulching
  • Foldable handlebars
  • Plastic body

Similar to the Sun Joe MJ401-E, the Greenworks 16-inch mower is a compact and punchy power tool.

Straight out of the box, the first thing we noticed was its simplicity. Green, plastic, and lightweight, as well as working straight out of the box. With small deck mowers, this is always a positive that will benefit anyone who cares little about mowers in general.

The 16-inch blade may seem small, but for casual use in a small garden, it does the job wonderfully. Coupled with 5 adjustable cutting heights, it could blaze through short grass pretty quickly. Unfortunately, we did find that it struggled on badly kept or longer than average blades of grass.

One of the biggest surprises with the Greenworks 25142 was how quiet the thing was. We switched it on and it felt like a light purr, rather than battering our eardrums. The lightweight, nippy nature and elegance of the cut really appealed to us, it made the experience a delight.

As for discharge, there is an option for mulching and rear collection. The bag does fill up quickly however, breaking up the process, but it fit well and wasn’t difficult to reapply. Unfortunately, there is no side discharge here, but it’s likely that most owners will use the bag anyway.

Greenworks electric lawn mowers always have excellent build quality, and this is no different. It’s lightweight and plastic, but it’s sturdy and feels solid during use, whilst remaining easy to push. The option to forgo a starter cable in lieu of a button was refreshing, taking away the stress of broken parts.

It may be slightly expensive for the blade size and power, but this is an elegant solution to simple gardening. It’s solid, easy to use, and has enough features for it to remain useful throughout the year. If you have a small garden and want a hassle-free mower, then this may be for you.

What we likedWhat we didn’t like

Tacklife Corded Electric Lawn Mower – KALM1340A

Quick Summary:

  • 16-inch cutting deck
  • 11-amp motor
  • 6-position cutting heights
  • 16-gallon collection bag
  • Foldable handlebars
  • Plastic body

Compact and competent seems to be a trend with mowers lately, providing simple solutions to simple problems. The Tacklife Electric Corded Mower is no different.

Out of the box, this electric mower is easy to set up but does require a modicum of assembly. This involves installing the modular handlebars and the starter cable. This wasn’t much of a challenge but may get in the way for some people.

Once you’re ready to use the mower, it’s fairly easy to navigate. It’s a simple pull cable and you will be running up and down the garden in seconds. The Tacklife is pretty light also, so mowing your lawn won’t be too taxing

If there is anything that blew us away with the Tacklife Corded Mower, it’s how convenient this thing is. The handlebar is easy to adjust and can be lowered to accommodate storage. In fact, the mower folds up so well it can fit almost anywhere, it can even be hung up.

11 amps of power and a 16-inch steel blade do the cutting job as well as you would expect. It was reliable and didn’t put up any resistance when mowing longer blades of grass. This was thanks as well to 6 height positions, giving some versatility in the garden.

The 16-gallon bag may get full periodically, but thankfully Tacklife has added convenience magic to this feature also. When the bag is full a small indicator flap flips open, telling the user to empty the clippings. This was such a great feature and made mowing way easier.

This is just an excellent mower, period. It may lack some key features, which could be off-putting, but we found it completed the task at hand beautifully. The small, thoughtful features included with this model set it apart from similar mowers, making it a worthwhile purchase. If anything, the Tacklife offers some of the best value in this price bracket.

Quick Summary

  • 20-inch cutting deck
  • 12-amp motor
  • Blade height auto adjuster
  • 3-in-1 discharge
  • 16-gallon collection bag
  • Metal body

Plastic lawnmowers are the standard in the lower price brackets, which is why we love the Scotts Outdoor 50620S so much – it’s metal.

Out of the box, the Scotts Outdoor Mower is easily assembled, only requiring affixing the handle and bag. A simple start button and a cushioned handle also allow for no-fuss mowing.

With a 20 inch deck, the 50620S can cut through small-medium gardens fairly quickly, ripping through the grass without issue. The 12 amp motor enables it to get some extra oomph, whilst also remaining quiet. With a fantastic range of cutting heights, it can even tackle overgrown grass.

Build quality is mostly great, with the steel body feeling robust during use. Sadly the wheels can be defective, due to a locking bolt issue, but this is easily repaired by hand. These wheels also jut out the side of the mower, making it difficult to cut along edges or borders.

Even with the steel body, the 50620S is light enough to push with ease. The front and rear wheels, despite their flaws, were also smooth enough when turning.

This electric corded mower also has 3-in-1 discharge: mulching, bag, and side. Few mowers in this bracket feature side discharge, so this was a pleasant bonus. The 16-gallon bag may fill up quickly due to the large cutting path, but it was easy enough to empty and re-attach.

The Scotts Outdoors 50620S Electric Corded Mower is brilliant. Steel body, lots of power, versatile and nice features make this a lasting purchase. It may have some caveats, but these are easily solved and the trade-off is worth it.

  • 13-amp motor
  • 6-position height adjustment
  • Foldable handles
  • Winged blades
  • Plastic body

Power and a large cutting swathe are woven into the Black & Decker BEMW213. Strong enough to streamline the mowing process and turn it into a quick job.

As with any Black & Decker corded electric lawn mower, the BEMW213 is solidly built, with a sturdy, plastic frame. As its lightweight, you’ll be agilely moving across the garden. The handlebar is solid also, coping for the weight perfectly whilst being comfortable to grip.

Despite being plastic, the wheels were a highlight. They had enough traction to work on various surfaces and elevation, turning effortlessly.

Storage with the BEMW213 is fantastic, folding nicely so that it will be snugly fit in a shed or cupboard. It’s nice and easy to use, with button push start and easily adjustable 6-blade position.

The winged blade on the deck is an eye-catching feature, sucking grass efficiently and making it easier for collection. These blades also keep the clippings away from the user, so it’s a less messy experience.

The 13-gallon rear bag may not be ideal, but it was solid enough and easy to clip back on. Thankfully, Black and Decker have included a side discharge chute also, which compensates for the lack of a mulching option.

Overall, this mower will likely be suited for very specific purposes in situ. The BEMW213 is not far off its MM200 brother but does offer different features. Still, this mower is powerful and well built, so you can’t really go wrong with it.

Buyer’s Guide: Lawn Mowers and What to Look for While Buying One?

What is a corded lawnmower?

An electric lawn mower is powered by a motor, enabling them to push through the grass and chop it up. These will either be corded or cordless, with the former providing continuous power to the battery so that it can run.

What are the benefits of a corded lawnmower?

The major benefit of a corded mower is that it can run forever (well, until you’re done at least). This is a godsend with smaller gardens, taking away all the hassle of charging batteries and potentially running out of battery whilst mowing.

These mowers are cheap, efficient, and practical, which will be useful to anyone who just needs a mower for simple tasks. These can run anywhere between $70 – $250 on average. Obviously it won’t compete with the best cordless electric mower on the market, but a corded electric lawn mower will still do the job.

As these aren’t gas-powered or high-powered, they generally run with very little noise. Most small gardens are in towns and cities, making it perfect for anyone with neighbors.

What are the disadvantages of a corded lawnmower?

Having a cord may be excellent for maintaining power, but they can get in the way. Whilst mowing with a cord, you will have to constantly move it out the way and guide it with the appliance.

Corded mowers are definitely not suited for medium-large gardens. Not only will you be dragging a cord everywhere, but it would also take ages to get the job done. When buying an electric lawn mower with cord capabilities, try looking at ones that have an in-built attachment for it.

Best Corded Electric Lawn Mower

What to look for when buying an electric corded mower

With the amount of diversity in the mower market, it can be daunting knowing which features are important for you. There are so many characteristics that may be make-or-break to certain people and it’s imperative that you decide before purchasing.

Here are some of the features you should consider.

Material

Corded electric mowers are typically built using plastic or metal, with an occasional mix between the two. The material of a mower determines two major things: durability and weight.

Plastic is a lightweight material and will be easy to push around the garden. Anyone with compromised strength will likely find this useful. Despite being plastic, these models are still durable and will last fairly long. However, these are more susceptible to chips and cracks.

Metal, usually steel, is as durable as they come. Not only will the bodies on these mowers last, but will hold up against hard weather. As you would expect, these are heavier than their plastic ilk, so bear that in mind.

Blade Size/Deck Size

Deck size refers to how many inches of space a mower can cut, the wider the blade the quicker the process. Electric corded mowers will rarely go above 20”- 22”, and are the more expensive models in the market.

Your choice should come down primarily to the size of your garden. Corded lawn mowers aren’t suited for medium-large gardens regardless. In reality, just weigh up how big your garden is, even a smaller one, and figure out how much you need to cover.

The deck size of the average corded mower will service anywhere up to 1000m².

Cutting Height

Many mowers come equipped with a mechanism that adjusts the height of the blade. This is a handy feature for anyone who is looking for a precise cut or those who don’t consistently mow the lawn.

A lot of mowers come with a full range of positions, covering between 1.5” – 5”.

Power

Corded mowers are rarely going to have the power of a gas-powered model, but it’s unneeded in appropriately sized gardens. 10 – 14 amps are the average powers and will still push through gardens easily.

Power is consistent even with the best cordless lawnmower on the market, most of which will have the same amp motor.

Cord

A lot of mowers will not include an extension cord, in fact very few do. These can be purchased online easily enough, just make sure to get one that can stretch far enough and handle the power of your mower.

Don’t forget that electric lawn mowers with cords will require a decent power outlet and will need to be dragged around.

Grass Discharge

Discharge is simply the way in which the grass clipping exits a corded lawn mower. There are three main discharge methods in these mowers: side, rear, and mulching.

The rear discharge will exit via the back and into a collection sack if you have one attached. This does mean emptying the clippings periodically whilst mowing, as they fill up quickly.

Mulching is a means of cutting the grass in such a way that it can be left to aid the grass to grow. This doesn’t require any extra work such as raking but will make grass grow faster.

Finally, side discharge is where the grass flies out the side of the mower. This is really handy if you want to finish the task without emptying clippings. Bare in mind that this grass does require raking and collecting after.

Grass Collection Bag

Grass collection bags will accumulate all the grass clippings as you mow, allowing you to empty them somewhere else. These bags vary in quality but should be lightweight and sturdy.

These will range anywhere from 8 – 14 gallons in corded electric mowers and can be upgraded on certain models. Don’t be put off small collection bags however, they are very convenient for small lawns.

Storage

Lawnmowers are bulky devices, so they can be a nuisance to store. A lot of models now come with foldable handlebars and extremities, making it fit in a shed easily. Some even have the capability to be hung up!

Due to these electric lawn mowers corded nature, it can be beneficial to wrap up the power cord between uses to prevent cable damage.

Wheels

Wheels play a big part in how a lawnmower operates. Sturdy front and rear wheels are imperative for a smooth pushing motion.

Quality varies, but strong plastic and rubberized plastic are favorable and will last longer. Some may also have specific locking nuts or bolts, so you may need to replace them at some point.

Edging

If you have a garden with lots of paths and breaks in grassy areas, edging capabilities may be necessary. All this refers to is the degree of accuracy in which corded lawn mowers can cut next to borders.

Many new mowers have capabilities for this or specific designs built around this necessity. If you need this feature, avoid mowers with wheels that stick out too much.

What should I think about when buying a mower?

Best Corded Electric Lawn Mower

Size of Garden

You could have the best corded electric lawn mower on the market, with all the specs, all the features, and it will still be useless. Why? Because your garden is too big.

Bear in mind that corded mowers are always going to be shackled to the distance the cord can travel, making it unsuitable for large gardens. Small gardens, even some medium, are most appropriate for corded mowers.

As mentioned earlier, deck size is integral also. The bigger your garden, the bigger the blade you will need.

Overall Thoughts

Investing in a corded lawn mower is important for any gardener. If you want that perfect lawn with even grass, then you will need to give it a good cut.

No lawnmower will ever be perfect, nor will they suit every garden. Making that choice may be difficult, but with enough research, you will find the corded electric lawn mower that suits your needs.

In our list we have covered everything from small to large, powerful to convenient, and even some that have unique features. We hope you’re able to find the mower for you and can finally get your grass the way you want it.
