Makita UH6570 Electric Hedge Trimmer

Sporting a 500-watt, 4.6amp motor, the Makita UH6570 will output around 1600 strokes per minute. Not only will this trim through a hedge quickly, but the double-sided blade will also ensure that a hedge is left trimmed swiftly.

The motor comes equipped with a clutch to prevent any obtrusive materials catching on the gears. Safety is paramount and the device comes equipped with a 2-switch grip system, so that the blade moves when two are pressed.

Makita UH6570 Electric Hedge Trimmer Review

Weighing only 8.1lbs, this is fairly easy to hold also. Most people will be able to guide the trimmer over rounded hedges and for longer periods of time.

This speed is paired with a large 25.5” x 0.5” blade, allowing it to reach up to difficult places, as well as get the job done fast.

Using the Makita UH6570 is a pleasant experience, with low vibrations to ensure that trimming isn’t straining on the body. A soft, contoured grip helped in making the trimming process painless overall. Additionally, the entire thing was fairly noiseless and didn’t require ear protection.

The Makita UH6570 is one of the best electric hedge trimmers we reviewed, or have ever used. Quick Glance

  • 4-amp motor
  • 21” blade
  • 7ft telescoping length
  • Hardened steel blade
  • 8.8lbs

Getting to the top of a hedge can be a stretch, requiring all sorts of yoga poses and movement. Thankfully, Sun Joe has created a telescoping trimmer to reach these spots.

Sun Joe SJH902E Multi-Angle Telescoping Pole Hege Trimmer

The telescoping pole is what sets this trimmer apart, extending an extra 7.9ft for a total 13ft reach. This is essential if you have large hedges, more so if they are feature pieces in your garden.

This blade consists of a 21-inch hardened steel, double-sided blade so that trimming is completed faster. Being made of hardened steel, the SJH902E will cut through thick branches easily.

Sun Joe SJH902E Multi-Angle Telescoping Pole Hege Trimmer Review

With a 4.0 amp motor, this should not have any difficulty performing basic trimming functions. Along with its pivoting head, the blade can reach odd places and provide a more precise cut.

Handling the Sun Joe SJH902E was fairly cumbersome at times. When telescoped, the blade feels top-heavy and is not intended for long periods of use. It may also be difficult for those lacking strength to use.

Albeit these caveats, the grips and feel of the body were premium and felt nice on the hands. A coupled shoulder strap aided in the overall weight of the device, but still, lead to a difficult balance in weight.

Sun Joe SJH902E Multi-Angle Telescoping Pole Hege Trimmer Testing

The Sun Joe SJH902E surely has its niche, and a telescoping pole can be necessary for tall hedges. This is not a bad electric trimmer for the price and seems reliable, but will likely only suit those who need the extra coverage.

What we liked

  • Telescoping pole
  • Pivoting head
  • Strong blades
  • Shoulder strap

What we didn’t like

Quick Glance

  • 4-amp motor
  • 22” blade
  • 1.5” extra cutting blade
  • 3.04lbs

We’ve always been a fan of Craftsman power tools, and their corded hedge trimmer is no different.

The 22-inch dual-action blade is fantastic and can cut through thick branches and caress the bush of a hedge with ease. This is topped with a small blade fitting at the end, which can be used to cut small branches at around 1.5”.

Craftsman CMEHTS822 Corded Electric Hedge Trimmer

At 3.04lbs, this is a very light hedge trimmer and will be easy to wield for any gardener. Thanks to the comfortable grip and front hold, we found it satisfying to cut through our hedges.

The pull of the Craftsman is it’s accessibility to everyone. It is reasonably priced and offers a simple, yet effective, solution for hedge trimming. Simply plug it in, start it up and get ready to go.

Craftsman CMEHTS822 Corded Electric Hedge Trimmer Review

The major caveat to this simplicity is that this does not come with a cord lock and can clog up if it drags in a branch. As a result, there is no way to stop the cord from falling all over the place, which may get in the way during a cut.

Craftsman CMEHTS822 Corded Electric Hedge Trimmer Testing

It’s hard to deny the value of the Craftsman CMEHTS822. It gets all of the fundamentals correct, is surprisingly easy to carry, and even has some extra features to tide it over. This is one of the best hedge trimmers available for those who need simplicity and convenience.

What we liked

  • Value for money
  • Simple and practical
  • Lightweight
  • Extra cutting blade

What we didn’t like

  • No cord locking system

Quick Glance

  • 4.5amp motor
  • 26” blade
  • Rotating handle
  • 6.6lbs
  • Locking operation system

Although a bit more expensive than other electric hedge trimmers we’ve reviewed so far, the KT Kobalt is a nice offering for those who need more oomph.

KT Kobalt 4-Amp 26-in Corded Electric Hedge Trimmer Unboxing

The 26-inch blade is sturdy and offers the length required for high up places and trimming along the sides of a hedge. This sturdy ¾” blade will get through bushes and shrubs well, whilst also tackling thick branches.

At 4.5amps, this is a tad more powerful than other trimmers and can offer high SPM speeds for quick cutting. Despite all this power, the KT Kobalt Hedge Trimmer is relatively quiet and won’t wake the neighbors.

Our favorite feature of the KT Kobalt Hedge Trimmer was the handle. Not only was it a joy to hold with a perfect grip, but it also rotates. The ability to rotate from a vertical position to a horizontal one turned the difficult aspects of hedging on its head. It’s a game-changer.

Gardeners will find this easy to carry, with a total weight of 6.6lbs this will not require much force and shouldn’t strain the body. With a squeeze trigger and locking system, holding the unit was fairly simple making for easy operation.

KT Kobalt 4-Amp 26-in Corded Electric Hedge Trimmer Review

The cord is fairly short on the KT Kobalt Corded Hedge Trimmer, but this did prevent it from popping out during use. However, this will require a decent extension cord to get it across the garden.

The KT Kobalt is fantastic, hands down, with a lot of range and quality-of-life features that make it a pleasure to trim with. This may be expensive in comparison to other models, but the length and pivoting handle more than compensate for this. Heck, it even looks good with it’s blue and yellow color scheme.

What we liked

  • Long range blade
  • Rotating handle
  • Lightweight
  • Solidly built
  • Looks cool

What we didn’t like

  • Short extension cord

Quick Glance

  • 4.0 amp motor
  • 22” blade
  • 6.49lbs
  • Cord retention

The Black + Decker BEHT350FF is a fantastic corded hedge trimmer offering reliability and solid quality.

The 4.0 amp motor is a suitable solution for long hedge trimming sessions. This will get tidy hedges swiftly and much faster than any manual clippers could ever manage to meet.

BLACK+DECKER BEHT350FF Hedge Trimmer After Unboxing

The solid, 22” hardened steel blades are perfect for the majority of hedges, but won’t reach the highest of places without some stretching. This is more likely suited to those who have shrubs and small hedges, making it a good tool for the shed.

This is a two-handed trimmer, which the grip lends itself well to. A nicely contoured grip and solid front handle aid in maneuvering the blades around. At 6.49lbs this is light enough for most people to move up and down a hedge in comfort.

With a cord retention system in place, we found it much easier to move across a large yard. When attached to an extension cord, we found no issues with accidental unplugging, which is common on corded trimmers.

BLACK+DECKER BEHT350FF Hedge Trimmer Testing

Despite a great cord retention system, it is narrower than most trimmers. This means you will need to look for an extension cord with a smaller fit as most will not fit through the hole on the trimmer.

Sadly this does not have a locking switch, so care is needed when using the tool. However, the safety guard is well mounted and will block ricocheting debris.

There are some downsides to this trimmer, namely the lacking blade length and the extension cord hole. Regardless, it is a solid purchase for those who want a simple electric bush trimmer for their back yard.

What we liked

  • Cord retention system
  • Simple to use
  • Lightweight
  • Nice handle

What we didn’t like

  • No locking system
  • Narrow cord fitting

Quick Glance

  • 4.0 amp motor
  • 22” dual blades
  • 7lbs
  • Rotatable handle

The Greenworks 2200102 is a great electric hedge trimmer for those seeking one.

Powering up via a single button press, this two-handed hedge trimmer can cut through bushes with ease.

The 4.0 amp motor is powerful enough for most jobs, but the accompanying 22” blade will struggle on thicker branches. The blade can get a fair amount of reach and is suitable for garden bushes and shrubs.

Greenworks 2200102 Corded Hedge Trimmer Box

The Greenworks Hedge Trimmer is easy to lift and carry, as well as being nimble amongst the hedges. A 7lbs body makes this a lightweight solution to unkempt hedges.

Operating at a low temperature, we were surprised by how well this stayed cool after long cuts and on hot days. This is coupled with low vibrations and noise, perfect for residential and urban homes.

Similar to the previously mentioned Black and Decker trimmer, the Greenworks Corded Hedge Trimmer requires an extension cable. Whilst having great cord locking features, the input hole for the extension cord is narrow and requires something small enough to fit.

A great feature, especially at a budget level, is the rotating handle. It is easy to use and was fantastic whilst trimming our oddly shaped bushes.

Greenworks 2200102 Corded Hedge Trimmer Blade

There are some questionable aspects, such as the inability to lubricate the blades and a rather flimsy front guard. Although, these are negligible considering the number of positives this trimmer has going for it.

The reasonable price and solid features of the Greenworks Hedge Trimmer give for good value for money. It has a short reach and some design issues, but it will be one of the best cheap hedge trimmer products for most homeowners and gardeners.

What we liked

  • Practical for average consumer
  • Well priced
  • Adjustable handle

What we didn’t like

  • Extension cords slot
  • Guard piece

Quick Glance

  • 4.0 amp motor
  • 22” hardened steel blades
  • 6.35lbs
  • 2,400SPM

Continuing on with budget electric hedge trimmers, the Toro 51490 sits firmly with others of its ilk.

Retaining the 4 amp power benchmark and a standard 22” steel blade, this hedge trimmer is designed for everyday gardens. The hardened steel blades worked as they should, cutting into thick branches and shrubbery with a nice finish.

unboxing Toro 51490 Corded 22-Inch Hedge Trimmer

At 6.35lbs, this is one of the lightest trimmers we have used and it felt graceful gliding across the bushes. The maneuverability was perfect thanks to a nice, ergonomic handgrip, which was comfortable to grasp.

Unfortunately, this is a fairly basic model, lacking the likes of a locking switch or rotating handle. Despite this, it is still a solid hedge trimmer and priced to fit the budgets of most gardeners looking to upgrade from clippers.

There are a lot of problems with quality control on these devices and build-quality felt lacking. During our attempts at using it, strings falling out and a very flimsy body made the entire process feel cheap.

Toro 51490 Corded 22-Inch Hedge Trimmer Review

This is not the best corded hedge trimmer out there by any stretch of the imagination. However, it is priced well and may suit someone who plans on seldom using it. There are some consistent flaws with the quality of this item, but it does still have its place as a budget corded trimmer.

What we liked

  • Simple and cheap
  • Lightweight
  • Soft handle

What we didn’t like

  • Questionable build quality

#8. SereneLife PSLHTRIM52 Corded Electric Corded Hedge Trimmer

Quick Glance

  • 4.0 amp
  • 18” steel alloy blade
  • 17,000 SPM
  • 10” cord

The SereneLife PSLHTRIM52 may not be as big or as powerful as other hedge trimmers, but it has carved its own niche in the gardening world.

Featuring an 18” blade, this trimmer is designed more around maneuverability and small shrubs and bushes. This doesn’t make it less of a trimmer than others, the handiness lends itself well to most gardens and is actually quicker for some tasks.

SereneLife PSLHTRIM52 Corded Electric Corded Hedge Trimmer Testing

Additionally, the blade is made of a steel alloy, which is swifter at chopping up excess shrubbery. This won’t be great on hard twigs, but it’ll caress the edges of flowers and other soft plants nicely, rather than mincing them up.

The entire device is really light and made it easy to maneuver up and down a bush. This lead to neatly trimmed plumage and hedges after finishing.

With a 4.0 amp motor, this is still on a similar level as most trimmers but can reach speeds of up to 17,000 strokes per minute.

Although the SereneLife PSLHTRIM52 has a 10” power cord, it is likely that you will need a full extension cable also. Having it plugged in was nice and we never had issues with the cord getting in the way.

Finally, the safety power lock was an essential feature sorely missing on other models. The entire unit was easy to operate and was quick to start.

It’s hard to place the SereneLife PSLHTRIM52 amongst other trimmers as it is tailored to finely tuning garden assets. The alloy blade and fast speed make it excellent for those with a lot of shrubbery and overgrown plants. It may be priced around the same as bigger hedge trimmers, but this remains a quality piece for the money.

What we liked

  • Nimble and swift
  • Excellent blade
  • Great for flowers and softer plants

What we didn’t like

  • Not for hedges and thick bushes
  • Tailored for a very specific gardener

Buyer’s Guide: Electric Hedge Trimmers and What to Look for While Buying One?

What is a corded electric hedge trimmer?

Corded hedge trimmers an improvement on the age-old method of using manual clippers. Electric trimmers are designed to neaten up and straighten the edges of bushes, hedges, and even foliage. Not only does this make a garden look beautiful, it is also healthy for the plants themselves.

Cordless vs Corded Hedge Trimmers

Corded hedge trimmers tend to be tailored to a typical garden. As they are tethered to a power source, they can only go so far. As a result, they are usually not as powerful or large as some cordless models.

Corded trimmers are simply easier to operate, with the only caveat being the need to carry the cord around the garden.

If you look at any cordless hedge trimmer reviews, you will likely see that they have their own issues. One is that they can run out battery, or require gas to run, making them heavier and less green overall. Despite this, there is no need to worry about cutting the cord or dragging it around everywhere.

What to Look for When Buying a Corded Electric Hedge Trimmer

Best Corded Hedge Trimmer

The various features of these devices can make or break them. If you’re searching for the best hedge trimmer, you will need one that fits your needs. Here are some characteristics to factor in.

Motor

Having a powerful motor can be integral to the way it cuts along bushes. If it’s under-powered it will falter on branches, whereas powerful motors can be useless when tackling plumage or soft bushes.

The majority of corded trimmers will average around 4-amps, which is a good output for cutting a majority of hedges.

Blade Length

Blade length constitutes just how much trimming is done over time. Larger blades are best for long tasks and will make quick work of hedges and bushes.

This does not mean short blades are worthless, in fact, they are really easy to control and move. If you are just grazing bushes, a short blade can be better.

You may wish to opt for a single-sided blade if you have difficulty controlling a trimmer. However, getting a double-ended blade will lead to faster and more efficient cutting.

Safety Features

Safety is paramount. Every hedge trimmer will come equipped with a guard plate to prevent debris from hitting the face.

Other safety features include a locking system for when the trimmer is not in use. Others may have a two-button, or hold button, a system to prevent accidents occurring in case of lost grip or balance.

Weight

A lighter trimmer is easy to grasp and move around. Anyone who struggles with lifting tools will need a smaller trimmer. Trimming can be tiring over a period of time, so make sure to pick one that you can hold onto.

Grip

Most trimmers will have a contoured or padded grip, preventing wrist and hand injuries over prolonged usage. An adjustable, pivoting handle is useful for those who are constantly switching between vertical and horizontal cuts.

Feedback

Best Corded Hedge Trimmer

This refers to noise and vibrations. Noise can be a big complaint, with most products like this running loud. It’s best to wear earplugs or similar during use.

Vibration can be difficult on the hands during use, so some people may need a unit with less vibration. With less vibration, the hand will have the best grip possible on the handle and will lead to better cuts.

Conclusion

Our aim with this guide was to cut out a lot of the ambiguity surrounding corded trimmers. There are a lot of different products on the market, all tailoring to different needs and people. It’s imperative that you delve through the features you need to ensure you purchase the right trimmer for you.

We hope you found this useful and are able to get your hedges looking prim and proper.
