If you have ever owned a shed before, you may know that many of them can be difficult to set up and almost impossible to move. The difference that a Suncast shed has over other brands is the ease of assembly, high strength resin construction and durability. Sheds made of wood can rot and require frequent coats of lacquer to remain water resistant. Steel sheds are at risk of rusting and can be a real pain to assemble. Suncast sheds come in a series of snap-together panels and can be set up within an hour or two, depending on the shed’s size. To get an idea of the sheds that Suncast offers, take a look at some of these examples.

Extra Large Shed

The extra large model provides over 44 square feet of storage space, enough to store a ride-on lawnmower plus lots more. The best part is that the entire walk-in shed assembles without the need for tools. Not many sheds can make a claim like this. The large resin panels keep your goods secure and safe from the weather. Yard tools, bicycles, furniture, boxes and more can be placed in an organized fashion inside the shed. Large objects can be easily maneuvered inside courtesy of the extra wide door opening. The double doors can be locked up for security. The next size down is the large model which offers about 32 square feet of space and come with the same features.

Vertical Storage Unit

Tall and thin, the Suncast vertical storage shed provides ample room for tools of all shapes. The weather resistant resin panels provide protection from the weather, which is especially helpful in preventing tools from rusting. Vertical shed units are the perfect solution for clean-looking garage and backyard storage. Items can be placed on the floor panel as well as leaned up against the beck and sides. Leaning up your tools against a bare wall can look cluttered. The vertical shed provides a convenient place to store all of them.

Horizontal Shed Unit

Suncast horizontal sheds could effectively be described as plastic chests for outdoor use. These units have ample space inside for paint buckets, small trash bins, yard tools, or anything else you want to hide away and keep protected. A single or double hinged door at the top gives full access to the storage space inside. Some models feature front-load doors with a convenient entry ramp. Clearing up yard clutter becomes a breeze with the organizational options provided by Suncast. When compared to steel sheds, Suncast products outperform them in almost every way.

There are a lot of storage options out there these days, ranging from small plastic totes to full-sized walk in sheds. If you’re looking for a long-term, full-sized, dependable storage unit right at home, a steel shed is for you. Steel units come in every size imaginable and can be assembled with relative ease. Steel has a low resistance to corrosion, is very durable, and is not susceptible to being toppled by the wind. We all have extra items that we want protected or stored, and choosing the right storage option is important. Steel sheds are a smart investment because of their long-lasting toughness and flexibility. The shed can be placed basically on any flat surface. Assembly can be done with one or two people and can usually be completed in one day. These sheds are considered a semi-permanent structure, which means they can be disassembled and moved if needed. Storage kept inside these units remains safe from the elements. Setting up a shed is basically adding on real estate to your home. More space means more flexibility and a better quality of life.
A steel shed can become a staple in your daily organization. Items like lawn mowers, gardening tools, pool toys, ladders, or even a small workshop can be stored with ease. Gasoline powered equipment will not corrode steel if there is a leak, giving peace of mind. If you have a large enough shed, you can put shelves, tables or even smaller sheds inside the unit for better organization. The goal is to fit as much storage as possible while still maintaining functionality.

Shed Use

Steel Shed

There are basically two main uses that people have for steel storage sheds. The first is for a long term storage option for extra, un-needed items. The best way to keep these items safe in the shed is by using boxes. As resilient as these sheds are, there will be small critters that will make their way inside. Boxed storage is a smart way to prevent them from eating or damaging the goods. Things like memorabilia, clothes and keepsakes can be stored in the shed only if the temperature and humidity is moderate. Over time, excess humidity can damage paper goods like photos. Heat can melt candles and damage electronics. Of course, if you keep the steel storage shed indoors, the climate will be ideal for items of all types.
The second need for sheds is for a frequently accessed tool and supply location. Often kept in the backyard, sheds serving this need hold tools from around the house such as chainsaws, ladders, lawn equipment, outdoor toys, pool chemicals and more. Without a designated location for these items, the yard can quickly become cluttered. Items can be difficult to locate quickly. Steel sheds put an end to this with a safe and secure place to put them. If you have many tools such as rakes and shovels, consider installing a handy tool rack inside. This will keep those awkward shaped items in their place. For night time access, I recommend a built in light. This can be as simple as a battery powered push light to a fluorescent ceiling light. Regardless, trying to access and hold a tool in the dark with a flashlight in the other hand can be a pain.

The Advantage Of Steel

Panels For The Frame

The advantage that steel has over sheds made of plastic and wood is the long-term reliability. Plastic models can easily blow over in the wind. The walls are often made of some type of mesh, which I don’t consider to be a real wall at all. When storing items inside, you will appreciate having a solid steel wall to lean items against. Racks, shelves and tables can be mounted to the steel walls for added organization. Light mounts can be attached to the ceiling using a drill and a few screws. Wood is a great material, but requires maintenance and upkeep. Wood can degrade from water damage and sunlight over time, leading to cracks, discoloration and rotting. An annual re-sanding is usually required. Also, try moving those heavy wood beams if you need to relocate the unit.

Setup

A Proper Foundation

The number one rule before you set up your shed is to find a level surface. Preferably, a concrete slab or brick floor. There are several reasons for this. First, having a level surface means the shed will not lean. A leaning shed will lead to improper weight distribution and can lead to a topple in extreme cases. Surfaces like grass and dirt are too soft and don’t serve as a good foundation. Sections of the shed can sink into the ground when wet. Also, rain can pool up on the uneven surface and seep into the shed. A steel shed can be placed on bare dirt only if supports are laid down. Your steel garden shed instructions should discuss this, but it basically involves setting down a series of wooden beams to form a raised and level surface.

A Sturdy Frame

Construction of steel garden sheds can be performed with one person, but two or more is ideal. Large sheds come in one or more heavy boxes which can be difficult to handle. Even on a dolly or roller cart, two people may be required to handle it. Lay the box down on the ground, using care to prevent crushing feet. You may want to take an inventory of each piece to make sure the manufacturer included them all. You’ll find that individually, the pieces are easy to work with. Follow the instructions very carefully and be sure to use the right bolts for each stage. The corrugated wall panels tend to look the same, so double and triple check that you have the right one before final placement. Follow each step and you will soon have a completed shed. In some cases, you will find that the pieces don’t quite come together. If the bolt holes are a little off, take a thin screwdriver and put it into the hole. Use the leverage to shift the holes and line them up. Proceed to slide the bolt through.
Rain, wind and shine can’t win against quality steel sheds. Once you’ve found the right one, you will be sure to experience many years of use.

The name Rubbermaid invokes thoughts of a highly durable and reliable storage solution, and rightfully so. Any Rubbermaid shed is built with quality materials and constructed with functionality in mind. Sometimes you need a little extra space to keep everything organized. The best way to do this is to use a convenient storage shed. Sheds can be placed outdoors and indoors, and can store items ranging from tools to toys. When the garage or backyard gets overwhelmed with clutter, consider one of these sheds to make the most out of the available space. Sizes range from small to large and they are easy to assemble, with some being completely pre-made. The company has manufactured so many shed varieties that it can be hard to determine which one is best for you. Fortunately, there are some tips and tricks in picking the Rubbermaid storage sheds.

Types Of Sheds

Big Max 7 Foot Square Shed

I highly recommend the Big Max Rubbermaid Shed series because of their versatility and wide range of uses. The smallest is the Big Max Junior and comes in the dimensions of 6 feet by 3 feet. This is the amount of area that will be available to you on the shed floor. This is the perfect space for things like lawnmowers, shovels, tools, boxes or anything else. This shed can be stored out in the backyard, in the garage or even indoors. Because they are made of durable plastic, it is safe and clean enough to even put food products in. A shed like this could free up space in the kitchen and be used as an extra pantry. Most likely, though, you have clutter or extra items around the house that you need to put somewhere in an organized fashion. A Rubbermaid shed is a far easier solution to rearranging the house to make more room. Simply put the shed anywhere it’s needed and you’re ready to de-clutter and organize your home. Place Rubbermaid shedsrubbermaid in the backyard for the kids’ toys. Get one for the “tool guy” in your household for a great place to keep and organize tools.

The next biggest shed in the Big Max line is the standard version which measures 6 foot square, providing 325 cu ft. of space. A more wide range of items can be stored in this bigger shed, including larger lawn mowers, small ladders, storage boxes, unused furniture, and more. Keeping your lawnmower in a protected place like this prevents corrosion and rust. Plastic components can discolor and degrade in the sun. A shed can protect your valuable items and promote greater organization. If you have patio furniture, you can store extra chairs for guests or events. Most people keep some extra chairs around for get-togethers but end up stacking them on the side of the house. Besides degrading in the weather, the furniture can accrue bugs, spider webs and dirt, which won’t give a very positive impression to your guests. Install a tool rack in the shed for your garden tools and weed whacker.

Rubbermaid Vertical Storage Shed

If you’re searching for a complete storage solution, consider getting the Big Max Ultra. The largest in the series, the Ultra provides a massive 6 by 10 feet of space, totaling 467 cubic feet. While not quite large enough to support a car or truck, this shed is perfect for people with a wide range of needs. Lawnmowers, bikes, tools, or even motor scooters would fit well in here, with room enough for a shelf or two. To make the most of the empty space higher than stacking height, consider putting one or two shelves into the shed. The shelves can support smaller items like boxes and other miscellaneous items. The Big Max Ultra is sure to become your personal storage sanctuary. Measure the area where you want to put it to make sure there will be enough space. If it will lie within a walkway or path, keep in mind that people or equipment may need to pass around the Rubbermaid shed.

Made With The Consumer In Mind

So, what makes a Rubbermaid storage shed so great anyway? The secret is in the craftsmanship and design. The double-walled construction ensures a weatherproof seal and provides strength. Many of the sheds on the market today are made with one wall. The problem with this is that a single wall has far less rigidity than two. Also, the air in between the walls acts as an insulator to mediate the temperature inside. Rain, dust and wind have a much harder time penetrating the shed’s walls. Place your shed anywhere, rain or shine, and have the peace of mind that comes with owning Rubbermaid storage sheds.

Assembly

Another great thing about these sheds is the ease of construction. The “wall anchor” system was designed to aid in quick and easy shed building. Some smaller sheds come pre-assembled, such as the floor units at your home improvement store, but the larger ones will come un-assembled in a box. Even if you’re not handy with tools, you’ll do just fine with assembly, as Rubbermaids assemble with very little hardware.

Other Varieties

Rubbermaid Horizontal

If you have smaller or more specific storage needs, then the Big Max line may not be for you. The Rubbermaid vertical storage shed (number 3673). It features double doors and a loading ramp to roll heavy items right into the shed. You may think of a plastic shed to be only suitable for lightweight items, but that isn’t the case. The plastic materials are very sturdy and can take a beating. The vertical design of this shed means that it does not require much floor space, and can be put in more places than usual. The tall structure can accommodate things like shovels and step ladders. Another great vertical model is number 3673. It is extra deep to accommodate larger items like bicycles. For wide and low storage, consider a Rubbermaid horizontal storage shed. The low profile means easy access. Many of these have sliding lids.

Rubbermaid produces some of the most long-lasting and durable storage sheds around. It’s no wonder why so many people have organized and de-cluttered their homes using them. It’s not just a storage shed, either. The company has spent countless research producing products that are smarty designed to handle any need. Once you find the shed that will work best, you are sure to enjoy it for years to come. When compared to steel sheds, Rubbermaid’s lightweight plastic models are superior in many ways. Rubbermaid offers their sheds for sale at many locations worldwide, including on the internet.

Everyone needs some extra storage every now and then, some more than others. Finding the right storage solution for you doesn’t need to be a challenge or costly. There are sheds for sale that come in every material and size that can be set up both indoors and out. The key to selecting the best shed is to determine approximately how much extra space you need, how much you plan on expanding in the future, and then determine which material would do best for cost-effectiveness and durability. Smaller tool sheds are great for storing your yard tools and equipment and can be placed anywhere they are needed. Many come with wheels for easy transport. Large sheds can come in massive sizes and can even be used to park a car inside. Some assembly is most likely required, so keep that in mind when deciding what you are capable of. If you are technically savvy, consider building your own shed from scratch using plans or your own unique design. Whatever you decide upon, there are a few tips to keep in mind when looking for a shed. Chances are you’ll use and need your shed for quite some time, so it’s important to pick a material and design that will last the test of time.

Determine Your Needs

Tool Shed

Your storage needs can be determined by looking at the amount of material you need to store. Take the objects and place them together in some open space. You can measure the edges of the pile to get a general idea of the size you need. If you determine that you need a large, walk-in shed, I’m sure you will want to maximize your available storage space, so a good idea is to get some shelves to put the items on them before measuring. The shelves will help use open space that will otherwise not be taken advantage of. Steel or plastic shelves will work great for this. Keep in mind that your storage needs may increase over time, so you may want to get a bigger shed than you need right now. If you can’t fit one large shed, consider getting several smaller ones for easier and more flexible placement.

Location

Large sheds are extremely flexible and are built to last. Usually fabricated out of steel, these sheds will require a stable and flat surface to be placed on. Before building the shed on a surface like grass or dirt, it is strongly recommended that you place wood beams down as a support base. The shed’s instructions should detail how this is done. For maximum stability, consider pouring a concrete slab. It’s not exceptionally involved to do this and can extend the lifespan of steel sheds. Another highly advised tip is to create a platform that is elevated off the ground an inch or two. There are several reasons for this. If the shed is flush with the ground, water can come in and get your things wet. Items like boxes will be damaged from this and could trigger a collapse. Another reason for a raised platform is to deter critters from entering. Rodents and insects will be less likely to enter if the shed is elevated.

Organization

Organization is key when storing items in a limited space. Look for creative ways to store your stuff, including shelving, racks, tables and even smaller sheds. Racks can be mounted on the ceiling, but make sure any drilled mounts are done to the walls of the shed and not the roof. Leaks are bound to happen when the rain comes around. A cool idea is to use smaller rubber sheds inside your big shed for organization. Tools, chemicals, paint, toys, and anything else you can think of will be organized with ease using this system. A large shed is a great place to store your lawnmower to keep it safe from the elements. Keeping your stuff safe is easy, as many sheds come with lockable doors. If your shed is outdoors, make sure the objects inside are resistant to cold, heat and moisture. The humidity outside tends to be greater than inside and can damage things like documents, photos and wood over time. Heat and cold are bad for electronics, certain plastics and things like candles. Durable things like tools will have no problem coping with the weather in your area, just be cautious when storing items from inside your home.

Building Your Own

If you’re good with the hands and have a little experience working with wood/brick, consider building your own shed. This is an excellent option for people looking for the greatest in flexibility and design options. You can take pride in ownership, and make the shed just how you want it. Features can be installed that were otherwise not available on the pre-fabricated market. Plans can be obtained from your local home improvement store or online. Plan books with often include creative shed additions like lighting (very handy), shelving, and material choice. For people who can’t find what they need in the available sheds for sale, this is the option for you.

Plastic

Most individuals are looking for a smaller storage solution for their garage or backyard. For this, I recommend a plastic, pre-made shed. Companies like Rubbermaid make sturdy and convenient sheds that can be used for just about anything. Excess clutter can be contained and organized into the built-in shelves. Just a couple small sheds can do wonders for a cluttered garage. If your kids make a mess with their toys, put a shed in the backyard just for toy storage. Your kids can learn to put the toys back and keep the area clean. If you are storing cleaning chemicals and have kids or pets, be sure to lock the doors to prevent and accident.
Small storage solutions are highly flexible and can be moved as needed. Plastic units are not limited to outdoor use, however. A kitchen, bedroom or closet can benefit from the extra storage space one provides. For example, you can find deals on dry/canned foodstuffs at the store, and have a great place to store it. Just make sure you don’t mix chemicals or dirty objects with your food. Closets can be organized by putting folded clothes and shoes inside. Formal or rarely worn attire can be kept safe and out of the way until it is needed.
There are enough storage solutions available to meet everyone’s needs. A shed can be a big or small investment, but it should suit your needs regardless. Sheds can make the most out of the space you have available and keep your possessions safe. You can find sheds for sale on the web or home improvement store. You can generally find a shed for sale during all times of the year.
