Swimming Pool SlidesInstallation Guidelines for Pool Slides

Swimming Pool Slides manufacturers are quite picky when it comes to how a slide should be installed, and with good reason. Improper installation of a pool slide can result in serious injury. It is important to follow the specific instructions that come with your slide. The following information is intended to aid in your understanding of pool slide installation, not replace a manual.

Step 1: Assembly of the Flume
The flume is the main sliding surface of the slide and may be shipped in multiple pieces. The flume should be placed on a smooth surface while working to avoid scratching. A cardboard box works well for protecting pool slides on a deck. Turn the flume upside down to locate the holes for the support pipes. All of the support pipes should be connected with the included hardware. These pipes will support the entire weight of the slide and occupants, so correct installation is key.

Step 2: Connecting the Ladder and Handrail
Start by connecting the two ladder rails to the flume using the appropriate bolts. Then line up each of the treads between the rails and attach them firmly. Some manufacturers include anti-seize compound which should be applied to all bolt threads. Check the alignment of each tread before tightening down. At this point, the slide should be able to stand on its own. Position each of the top handrails according to the provided image and secure them to the top of the slide. Never omit the handrails from the building process, as they are essential for slide safety.

Step 3: Deck Anchoring
Position the slide at the edge of the deck according to the safety guidelines illustrated within your manual. The bottom of the flume must be positioned over the edge of the deck, typically 3 inches or so. This prevents users from injuring themselves on the deck edge. Use a marker to mark the position of each mounting hole.

A masonry drill is recommended for drilling each of the bolt holes into the deck surface. Use the appropriate drill bit to make holes in the deck as straight as possible. Brush or vacuum off any left-over debris. Tap wedge anchors into the ground and bolt the entire slide down. Using a torque wrench can help tighten the bolts to the required tightness. Place the included vinyl caps over the bolts to prevent injury.

Step 4: Hooking Up Water
Many swimming pool slides can be hooked up to your pool’s filtration system for added slipperiness. A hose from the filtration system is connected to the intake port on the flume and secured into place with a clamp. The pool pump should be off during this process. The other end of the hose needs to be connected to your pool’s return port using the appropriate threaded adapter. Manufacturers supply a special adapter which allows for quick detachment of the hose to resume normal pool operation when not playing with the slide.
