A square umbrella provides much needed shade to an outdoor area such as a backyard or garden. Outdoor umbrellas differ from the ones used during a rainstorm in that they are significantly larger and can withstand being outdoors at all
times. The umbrellas is supported by a sturdy pole which is usually placed within a table mount to shade the area below. High quality fabric provides the shade and comes in many colors to suit your fancy. Most of the umbrellas you see on the market are circular in shape. The problem with a circular design is that it can be hard to fit all the furniture you want underneath. Since the sun changes angle during the day, sections of your dining set can be exposed. Square umbrellas provide more coverage because they have corners and edges.
Square Umbrella Design
All patio/market umbrellas have some things in common no matter the shape. They all are supported by a sturdy central pole made of steel, aluminum or sometimes wood. This pole is the backbone of the umbrella, holding up the top even in the presence of wind. A handy feature in some square umbrellas is the addition of a hand crank which allows the top to fold down when not in use. This keeps the canopy fabric clean and is always a good idea to do when the winds get strong. The canopy fabric is held up by a series of ribs, also known as veins. These ribs hold the fabric taught and open and have joints which allow the folding functionality.
A square square for an umbrella is a natural choice. Most patio sets, including chairs and tables, have straight edges. This means that the set can be easily set up within the boundaries of the square-shaped shade that the umbrella casts. Try fitting your square or rectangular shaped dining set underneath a circular umbrella!
Matching Table:
While circular tables can be used with a square patio umbrella, a square table often has a more natural fit. Square tables can either be purchased with the umbrella as a set or bought separately. A small hole in the center of the table is where the pole sits.
If you have an area of the yard which needs shade, consider using a free standing mount. Umbrella mounts allow users to place their square umbrellas on just about any flat surface. The mounts that are not made of solid metal must be filled with sand or water to weigh them down.
