Counter height dining sets are different from conventional kitchen tables in that they are raised higher and are more elegant in design. Intended to be used for formal dining in the home, a counter height set provides an ideal location from which to eat and converse. These frequently come with matching chairs that are just the right height to fit underneath the table without scratching. Elegant color schemes such as cappuccino, espresso, walnut and mahogany are painted onto the wood frames. Glass or marble tops are placed on many models to act as a hard surface which will not scratch.

Both flat edged and round counter height dining sets are available, each designed to fit into a different type of room. Round counter height sets make the most of smaller spaces, while flat edged ones fit well in larger ones. The finish on the wood can be chosen to match and compliment the other furniture, paint and decor within a room. Whether you enjoy a contemporary look or something more exotic, you can bet that it is available.

Interesting add-ons to these counter height dining sets such as lazy susans and below-table storage cabinets add greater functionality and organization. A lazy susan is a rotating round segment on the table’s surface which can rotated to bring objects within reach of everyone sitting at the table. Condiments, utensils, napkins and other objects can be within reach with a simple turn. The glass piece for the lazy susan is often fogged to hide the rollers underneath.

A like-colored storage box underneath the counter height set can do wonders for keeping the area nice and tidy. Keep the fine silverware or wine bottles stored neatly under the table for instant access.

The chair sets that come with counter height dining sets are designed to match the table exactly. They use the same wood, style and paint/stain that the table has, maintaining a fluid design. Padded chairs can be covered in any number of materials. To improve cost effectiveness, leather-like vinyl is used. Vinyl colored and textured to look like leather is placed over foam padding on the back and seat. Cloth is also popular in some cases, but can acquire stains from food products. If selecting cloth seats, look for those coated in Teflon to make stain removal easy.

Counter height dining sets do require assembly, as they are shipped in pieces. The wood pieces are placed in boxes and wrapped in foam for protection. Assemblers will need several tools, which can include a screwdriver, hammer and drill. Wood sets such as these use cam locks, dowels with glue and screws to create a sturdy and long lasting table and chair set. If additional lighting is needed above and around the dining room, Hampton Bay ceiling fans and lighting are great choices for lighting up a dining room area. Add in a few Waverly curtains around the windows and you’ll be set.
